Names for dogs

Naming your dog can take a lot of thought, and can be as difficult as naming a child.  Owners need to put some thought into the name, as it is what they will be using and calling on a daily basis when helping to train the dog.  The name chosen could be due to a favorite film or book, based on how the dog looks, or it could be decided by how the owner feels about the relationship between themselves and the dog.

However, for a working or service dog, it is important that the name given sends out the correct message.  For example, naming a therapy dog 'Killer' is probably not the best idea.

Famous Dogs Names

• Lassie - possibly one of the most famous dogs, with many films to the name.
• Snoopy - from the cartoon 'Peanuts', Charlie Brown's best-friend.
• Rin Tin Tin - the name of many German Shepherds used by Warner Bros.
• Toto - Dorothy's little dog in The Wizard of Oz.
• Balto - famous sled dog, memorialized by a statue in NY Central Park.
• Laika - the first animal entered into orbit.
• Pickles - who found the Jules Rimet Trophy when it was stolen in England, UK in 1966
