Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease that is common amongst dogs, especially those in a confined environment like a kennel, hence the name.  It is can be caused by both bacterial and viral infections of the uppper respiratory tract. 

Kennel cough cannot be treated as such, but the symptoms and original cause can.  However, better than treating the illness, kennel cough can be prevented using vaccines and good hygiene.

The main symptoms and signs of kennel cough include:

• A dry, hacking cough that worsens after exercise
• Yellow or green discharge from nose
• Phlegm and excess saliva when coughing
• Slight fever
• Less inclined to exercise or eat
