Dog Care & Health

Their health and wellbeing is completely in our hands....

Domesticated animals, including and especially dogs, are completely dependent on human guardians for their health, safety and comfort. It's a bigger responsibility than many dog owners realize, often has a higher price tag than budgeted and often requires some very tough decisions.

Caring for a dog is a full-time, long-term career. It starts with being a responsible dog adopter - selecting the right dog from the right source. It means finding a good veterinarian, detecting signs of illness, preventing fleas, heartworms and diseases. It means accepting that "accidents" on the good carpet will happen and unusual things may be eaten. It means finding the right food, feeding the right amount and keeping the water bowl topped up - EVERY DAY. It means brushing, trimming nails (or finding someone who can) and giving baths when required. And after years of companionship, it may mean making a very difficult decision, and letting your friend go peacefully and without undue pain and suffering.

But for those of us who love dogs, it's worth every penny, every sleepless night and every tough choice.
